Kids Make a Difference Annual Family Ice Skating & Carnival

The Brooklyn Chapter of Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s youth group, Kids Make a Difference, will host its annual Family Ice Skating & Carnival event at Aviator Sports & Recreation Center at Floyd Bennett Field on Flatbush Avenue, just south of Exit 11S on the Belt Parkway, October 25. Registration starts at 12 p.m. and the event runs from 1-4 p.m.
The idea for PCF was born from two local mothers, Julianne Calisto and Denise Lamberto, and a desire for their children to become involved in a philanthropic effort. Supporting the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and launching Kids Make a Difference seemed like a perfect fit, especially since — after nine months of chemotherapy — Lamberto’s son had just overcome Burkitt’s Lymphoma.
The Lamberto’s were very thankful for the support that PCF and their doctors had provided. The two women also found a network of families from within their community whose children had just battled or were in the process of battling cancer as well. Through enlisting the help of these families, Kids Make a Difference hosted their first Family Ice Skating & Carnival in 2007 — a day where families could come together to make a difference, have fun and celebrate life.
On a shoestring budget and in a short period of time, the team has brought together an entire community. Over the past three years, the Family Ice Skating & Carnival benefit has gone from selling 350 tickets and raising $17,000 to now selling 500 tickets and raising nearly $30,000—all of which has been accomplished mostly through word of mouth and grass roots efforts.
Tickets for the event are $25 per person and include access to all activities. In addition to ice-skating, kids can enjoy gladiator style games, an inflatable slide and bounce house, carnival games and prizes. This year, there will also be an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win a 42” flat screen television.
For more, contact Julianne Calisto at 646-621-6572 or email@example.com or Denise Lamberto at 347-210-0749 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Tickets may also be purchased in person at Monster Tees, 2934 Avenue T in the Marine Park section of Brooklyn.
