Kids Dance A Thon Will Benefit Pediatric Cancer Fund: Nov 18

(November 16, 2006) Westchester’s “Dance Man” will do what he does best, dance, while giving back to the community in the process at a Dance A Thon to benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation on November 18.

Joe Cavise, owner of Dance Cavise in Mamaroneck, also directs a not for profit organization, Off Center Dance Theatre (OCDT), that combines community outreach with dance performance. Mr. Cavise takes young members of his company to act as goodwill ambassadors throughout the tri-state region. The aim is to mentor other children through dance partnerships.

On Saturday, November 18th, OCDT will host their 3rd Annual Dance a Thon for Charity; Giving Thanks and Giving Back. The event will take place between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm at the Dance Cavise Studios at 273 Halstead Avenue in Mamaroneck. This year’s Dance a Thon will benefit Pediatric Cancer Foundation, which funds treatment, research and acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment needed for pediatric cancer research and surgery. Nancy Joselson, executive director of the foundation, remarked,” I am proud of the spirit, commitment, and energy of the owners, teachers, and students at Dance Cavise. Together we can strive towards our goal…to wipe out childhood cancer in our lifetime and to insure that children and their families who have survived cancer can lead healthy, normal lives."

“I love the idea of Kids Helping Kids,” said Mr. Cavise. “That is what inspired us to choose Pediatric Cancer Foundation for this year’s beneficiary.” In the past OCDT has raised close to $14,000 for Tsunami and Katrina Relief.

The Dance a Thon has become a community event, with local pizzerias and Ben and Jerry’s at the Westchester donating food for the children participating. Sound Water Treatment Center has offered bottled water for the kids, and Minutemen Press had helped with printing. DJ, Eric Kizis, of Elite Entertainment is donating his services for the third year running. “We are so appreciative of Eric being on board each year and spinning the tunes for the kids,” said Mr. Cavise. “We are so grateful to everyone who is committed to giving of their time and goods to this wonderful event.”

All participants will dance from 10:00 until 12:00 when they will be treated to pizza, ice cream, and other goodies until 1:00 pm.
