Dear Friends,

Cancer is the number one cause of non-accidental death in children. Every year, more than 12,000 infants and children are diagnosed with a form of the disease. Receiving a diagnosis of childhood cancer is devastating. Despite decades of research, even the most advanced treatment protocols take an excruciating toll on both the child and the family. There is no easy cure, and in too many cases, there is no cure at all.

For the past four decades, Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF) has dedicated itself to one mission: to find a cure for childhood cancer. Since its inception, PCF has grown to support the work of our area’s leading children’s research hospitals—Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, The Hassenfeld Children’s Center at NYU Medical Center, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, The Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York, and Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center—by raising money for research, treatment, state-of-the-art equipment, and patient care.

The economic challenges of the past few years have been daunting, and your support through this time has been more important than ever. Government and other funding sources for pediatric cancer continue to diminish, yet critical research must continue. We gratefully extend our sincerest appreciation of those of you who have continued to support Pediatric Cancer Foundation Annual Journal with your ads and donations—and we welcome our new supporters who may have only recently discovered our charity. Please take a moment to place an ad in honor or memory of a loved one, to raise awareness of your local business, or to simply show your support.

We still have far to go, but every dollar donated brings us closer and closer to our goal: to help eradicate the devastating disease that is pediatric cancer. We thank you for your support of the 2011 Pediatric Cancer Foundation Annual Journal and for joining us in our mission to ...hold the hand of a child.

Sincerely,
The Journal Committee
